Tuesday- 3rd Grade GATE Day Wednesday- 4th Grade Tisdale GATE Day Thursday- 4th Grade Young GATE Day Dear Parents,
My name is Rebecca Campbell and I am the new Gifted and Talented Education teacher at Monte Sano Elementary School this year. I wanted to send you and your child this letter to welcome you all to GATE, tell you a little about myself, share the exciting learning I have planned for Monte Sano GATE students, and invite you to attend the GATE Open House that will take place during PTA Open House on August 9th! “Back to School” is an exciting time for our students and I would like to thank all of you for allowing me to serve you and your children in the gifted and talented program this school year. I am originally from Huntsville, Alabama and love living in this wonderful growing city! My husband and I have been married ten years and have two boys that are two and seven years old. We live in the Monte Sano school zone and our oldest is a Mountaineer. We all love Monte Sano Elementary School!! I received an undergraduate degree in the Elementary Education: Multiple Abilities Program and a masters in Special Education specializing in Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Alabama. Roll Tide Roll! This is my 15th year of teaching and my 10th year of teaching gifted education! As a gifted teacher, I look forward to exploring many exciting and unusual ideas from our students while challenging them to reach their potential and utilize their talents to achieve academic success. Academic enrichment activities, concept based units, project based learning, and higher order thinking skills will be the order of the day in our gifted class. I will teach Concept Based Units this year as well as provide higher order thinking skill lessons while exploring advanced standards in Math and ELA. We will also have time in GATE class called “Genius Hour”. This is a time where your child can research, create, plan, and wonder about all of your interests. Is your child interested in videogames? rattlesnakes? cooking? Mars? gravity? Well….this is their time to dive deep into their interest areas and create something amazing to share with the class or with the community. So please encourage your child to put on his/her thinking cap and bring all their ideas to GATE class! I am SO EXCITED about this year and I hope you all are too! We will have a great year in GATE this year and gifted services will begin the week of August 22nd! GATE Open House for parents will be during the PTA Open House on August 9th. Please join us in the Rm 8 for the GATE Open House. The Open House is a great opportunity to meet with MSES’s new GATE Teacher, meet HCS Gifted Coordinator, and get informed about some of the upcoming events and goals for Mrs. Campbell’s GATE classroom. We are looking forward to seeing everyone Tuesday night!
